The Syrian Family Planning Association was created at 1974. They count about 650 of SFPA volunteers and about 980 SFPA employees. Their objective is for Syrian society to enjoy sexual and reproductive health and rights based on free choices without any discrimination. To do so, they lead a locally owned, globally connected civil society movement that provides and enables services and champions sexual and reproductive health and rights for all especially undeserved.
On Monday 6th February 2023, catastrophic earthquakes hit Türkiye and Syria. Within hours, our local member association, the Syrian Family Planning Association (SFPA), was among the first responders assisting and evacuating people to safe shelter and accommodation in Syria.
How did the COVID crisis impact Syria and the Syrian Family Planning Association? Were they able to deliver sexual and reproductive health and rights services? What innovative methods did they implement to reach the marginalized groups during the crisis?
